Malcolm G. Thruston

Malcolm Gordon Thruston, 95, husband of Ann Cunningham Thruston died on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Born on January 15, 1930, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Malcolm Gordon Thruston, Sr and Kate Farr Thruston.

Gordon, a graduate of Greenville High School, Class of 1947, later received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951 from Clemson College in Textile Manufacturing. He retired from Lockwood Greene Engineers, Spartanburg, SC as Senior Project Manager. He served in Korea with the US Army and later retired as a Lt Colonel from the Army Reserves after 20 years of service.

Gordon was a member of Shannon Forest Presbyterian Church and chaired the building committee among others. He then became a member of St Giles Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC where he served as an elder.

Gordon was an avid, skillful woodcarver and leaves behind a legacy of beautiful artwork. He was an active member of the Piedmont Woodcarvers Club. He enjoyed weekly hiking for many years with his dear friends. He loved attending Clemson football games and tailgating with family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Cunningham Thruston; his brother, Terry Farr Thruston of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Virginia Thruston Diseker (Bob) of Winston- Salem, NC; daughter Kathy Chapman (Randy); his grandchildren Brad Chapman (Laura) of Pawleys Island, SC; Harrison Chapman (MaryMacrae) of Charleston, SC; Jeremy Gordon Thruston of Fredericksburg, VA; as well as great grandchildren, Mary Grace, Molly, Olivia and Grayson of Pawleys Island, SC.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents, son, Richard Gordon Thruston and his first wife Elizabeth Early Thruston.

A graveside service will be held Monday, May 19, 2025 at 1:00 at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Wade Hampton Blvd,Greenville, SC 29609
