Margaret Holt "Peggy" Coker

Margaret Holt “Peggy” Coker, 92, died on July 31, 2016. She was the widow of Thomas H. Coker to whom she was married for 59 years. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 29, 1924. She was educated in the schools of Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated from the North Carolina Women’s College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro).

When she came to Greenville after her marriage, she became a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church. She worked actively there serving as President of the Altar Guild and the Women of the Church. She was an active member of the Junior League of Greenville, the Carolinian Debutante Club, the Wildwood Garden Club, the Greenville Garden Club, and the Greenville County Historical Society. She volunteered at the Greenville Little Theatre and the Greenville Children’s Theatre. In her later years she was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her son, Thomas H. Coker, Jr. and his wife, Jill; her daughter, Sallie C. Coatney and her husband, Glen; her grandson, Thomas H. Coker, III and his wife, Jennifer. Also surviving her are nieces, Mary Walker Pope (husband, Louis), Irene Walker Painter, Martha Twitty Erwin (husband, Robert), Lilian Twitty Welch (husband, Calvin), Ellen Twitty McCotter, and a nephew, Robert Leslie Walker, Jr. She was predeceased by her parents, Sallie Martin and E. Rowell Holt; her brother, U.S. Navy Lt. Com. E. Rowell Holt, Jr.; and nieces, Mary Twitty Frye and Bobbie Twitty Mattiske.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Lilly Dunbar and Andrea Whitener, for their dedicated service.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. After the service a reception will be held in the McCall Parlor. Other times the family will receive friends at the home of her son.
