Margaret “Maggie” Wren, age 70, loving wife and best friend of Walter Wren, died on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 surrounded by her family. Born in Hattiesburg, MS on Dec. 6, 1943, she was the daughter of Clay Jordan and Margaret Hughes Phillips, and spent her formative years in Memphis, TN. Maggie was a graduate of Memphis State and devoted her life to teaching. She valued her friends at Carolina Golf Course at Botany Woods. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and antiquing, and even ran an antique business for several years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, include daughters Nita Gooding and Kathy LaRue; grandchildren Jacob LaRue, and Wren and Jenna Gooding; son-in-law, Don Gooding; brother, Clay Phillips; nephew Jay Phillips; and niece Kay Phillips. A combined visitation and memorial will be held Friday, Sept 12 from 6-7pm at Mackey Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. It was Maggie’s wish that she be cremated, so no funeral will be held.
