Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Mark Roger Stone and Nellie Chastain Stone. A U.S. Army Veteran, Martin was retired from Dillard’s Sporting Goods following over 40 years of service. He coached Dixie Youth Baseball for many years, helping shape the character of decades of young athletes. In 1984 he was awarded the Danny Jones Memorial Award for outstanding service to Dixie Youth Baseball. He was a faithful and longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. Martin loved the Clemson Tigers, Atlanta Braves, Elvis Presley, Skin’s Hotdogs, and most of all his family (especially his grandchildren). He was very proud to be awarded “Dance Mom of the Year” at The Dance Shop in Laurens.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Martin is survived by three sons, Jimmy Stone, Stan Stone and wife Michelle, and Ryan Stone and wife Becky; a daughter-in-law, Donna Stone; and seven grandchildren, Nicole, Grace, Sallie, Parker, John, Will, and Emily.
