Mrs. Poe was born on December 27, 1926 in Greenville, SC. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Lawrence H. McCalla and Mildred Costner McCalla. She was predeceased by her brothers Dr. Samuel W McCalla and Dr. Larry H McCalla, both of Greenville, SC.
Surviving are one son, Wilkins Carter Poe; four daughters, Mildred Poe Hilemon, Ellen Poe Narayan, Susan Poe Pang and Mary Poe Sanders; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was very active in the Greenville community as well as Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and supported her alma mater, Agnes Scott College. She treasured her family, her close Greenville friends, and longtime bridge buddies. She loved her garden and spent many hours growing beautiful flowers. It gives us comfort to think that she might again be fishing for shad with her husband, Carter, as they loved to do on the Edisto River.
A graveside service will be held at Springwood Cemetery in Greenville, SC on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 2pm followed by a reception at the Poinsett Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort SC and Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, Greenville SC are serving the family.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mackeycenturydrive.com for the Poe family.
