Mary Cecelia McCullough Stall was born in Greenville on December 20,1942 to Alex and Birdie West McCullough. She attended Greenville High School and Winthrop College. She graduated from Atlanta School of Art with a degree in Graphic Design. After graduation, Mary traveled to Paris, France to study printmaking with Stanley Hayter. She began her graphic design career at Leslie Advertising in Greenville. Mary married Joseph Sirrine Stall in 1971, and she joined Joe as a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Later that year, they opened John Simmons, a retail store in McAlister Square, which they operated for seven years. After the store's closing, Mary transitioned to a new career in retail at Rich's (later Macy's) and eventually led the Bridal Registry department there.
Desiring to join a congregation closer to their home, Mary (and Joe) joined John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville in 2011. She served the church as an Elder, Fellowship Committee member, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and member of the Women in Christ Sunday School class. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, spending time at the beach, reading, creating art projects, and sitting on the porch with her dog Lucy. Mary is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband Joe (recently of Columbus, NC), daughters Laura Sims (Derek) of Inman and Susan Clark (Mark) of Simpsonville, sisters Emily White (Paul) of Delaware and Margaret Havens of Virginia, sister-in-law Betty Peace Stall of Greenville, six grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
