Mary Elizabeth Bolger Vaughn, 93, of Greenville, wife of the late Robert Allen Vaughn, passed away Friday, January 1, 2020.
Mary was born in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Olga Sheppard Bolger. As a teenager during World War II she volunteered with the American Red Cross and the USO. She moved to Greenville to attend The Women’s College of Furman from where she graduated with a B.A. in English. Upon graduating, she began working for the American Red Cross for 2 years, then she began working with the Department of Social Services, where she worked for 25 years. She was a member of Church of the Redeemer Episcopal for over 60 years, where she served as St. Cecilia Guild Leader, taught Sunday School, and was active in ECW. She and her husband were among the first communicants of Church of the Redeemer. Her favorite place to be was on the beach, tending to her rose garden, or baking. She was spiritually devoted and loved people unconditionally.
Surviving are three children, Beth Vaughn (Iris) of Columbia, MD, Susan McConnell (Nick) of Taylors, SC, and Rob Vaughn (Alice) of Easley, SC; seven grandchildren, Heather McGee (Stephen), Lauren Bailey (Richard), Gabrielle Wells (Aaron), Stephanie Worinkeng (Willy), Jonathan Vaughn (Kayla), Joshua Vaughn (Alayna), and Anna Grace Vaughn; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Church of the Redeemer Episcopal, please contact the church office at 864-277-4562 for service details. She will be laid to rest at Graceland East Memorial Park.
