Matthew Westerfield, at the age of 28 went Home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2025, and is so happy in Heaven. He is joined with his great grandparents, Mary and Thad Parson, Claude and Mary Sweeney, his grandfather Gaither Sweeney, Wally and Veronica Westerfield, and Buddie. He is survived by his mother, Angela Westerfield, and father Henry Westerfield, sister Lauren Westerfield, his grandmother Elizabeth Sweeney, aunt Lisa Bauter, great aunts and uncle’s Paul and Billie Perry, and Johnny and Hazel Freeman, and his dogs Snoopy, Layla, and Stella.
Matthew was a faithful servant and loved to spread the word of God. He was an ordained pastor and held services at home and uploaded them to his YouTube channel Revelation Baptist Church MW. He preached at Old Fashioned Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, SC when visiting.
He loved his family so much, he was always happy, and had his signature big smile on his face. He was a ray of sunshine. Everyone he met loved Matthew. He enjoyed praying with his cherished friend Randy, and having Chick-fil-A with his boy Tyler. Tyler is his true friend.
Even with all his many challenges due to SCA7 he always remained faithful, positive, happy, motivated, never ever complained, just wanted to help and inspire others.
Matthew loved football and played for Pop Warner and Jupiter High School. He was the first to arrive for workouts and last to leave. His favorite team was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was an author and published eight books. Matthew fought through challenges he had and loved lifting weights. He was an accomplished, bodybuilder and competed in three shows.
Matthew's family could go on and on about what a beautiful, special person, and all he meant to them. But I know Matt would like to leave you with these verses.
Psalm 90 Vs. 9-10
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
II Corinthians Ch. 12: 7-10
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then I am strong.
Matthew’s quote - “You may see me struggle, but you will never see me quit.”
We are so looking forward to when we are all together again in Heaven.
I love you big guy, mom!! We all love you!!
A memorial service for Matthew will be held on Thursday, August 7th at 11:00 AM at Northwest Baptist Church, 20 Blue Ridge Drive, Travelers Rest, SC 29690.
