

Born in Glasgow, Pennsylvania on March 24th, 1936, Jim joined the United States Air Force at age 18 and proudly served his country for 28 years. He was a Vietnam veteran who served for 3 tours of duty and earned a prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross award, among many other honors. While stationed in Scotland, he met the love of his life, Catherine Kimmett, at a church-sponsored dance. After an 11-month romance, they were married in April of 1963 and later blessed with four children.
Jim will be remembered for his remarkable generosity and unwavering dedication to his friends and family, as well as his steadfast support of his loved ones’ accomplishments.
He is survived by his adoring wife of almost 58 years along with his four children and their spouses, Helen (Les) Neely, Jim (Heather) Moore, Lorraine (David) McElrath and Karen (Greg) Bryant. He is leaving behind his 15 grandchildren, Catherine (Todd) Johnston, Wesley Neely, Rebekah (Dillan) Stenersen, Tim (Sharina) Dayrit, Conner, Duncan and Graham Moore, Emmy (Lane) Fincher, James Johnson, and Anna and Rachel McElrath. Jim is also survived by his 5 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Olivia, Kenna, Aden and Bennett. He is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Vida McCartney and his aunt, Anna McCartney.
Jim will be dearly missed by his friends at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, at which he was a faithful member for many years.
A visitation will be held at Mackey at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive- Greenville, SC, on Wednesday, March 17th at 11:00 am with a service to follow at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Jim’s honor to Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
