Born in Easley, SC on December 8, 1929, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Louis Herbert Ballentine and Vida Sherriff Ballentine.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter Joyce Elizabeth Baker and son William Samford Baker III and wife Amy: grandchildren, Robert Baker Frazer and wife April and children Robert Jeb and Haley Virginia; Elizabeth Frazer Harper and husband Rob and children Reagan Elizabeth, Nora Jade and Logan Jackson; and William Samford Baker IV, and Laura Brock Baker and son Knox Woodrow. Mrs. Baker was predeceased by her husband William Samford Baker, Jr and two sisters, Mattie Ruth Stevens and Betty Ballentine Carter.
A 1950 graduate of Furman University, Mrs. Baker was an active member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. She served as Assistant for the Senior Minister of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and as an Educator and Executive Assistant to the Headmaster at Christ Church Episcopal School.
A visitation will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville SC 29609 from 2:00pm to 2:45pm, followed by a private graveside ceremony. This visitation is Business Casual.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621, or to the charity of one’s choice.
