Nora “Sue” Crumley, 91, best known as “Nanny,” was called Home to Glory, the evening of March, 28, 2025. Sue was born on May 5, 1933, in Greenville, SC, to the late Crawford and Elba Rainey. Native to the Piedmont Park community, she attended Paris School (now Paris Elementary) and worked at the Christie Pediatric Group as the Office Manager until she retired. Preceded in death, and waiting with open arms at the Pearly Gates, her husband, Henry Lee and brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Shirley Rainey.
Sue, and her sons, cared for her late husband, Henry, through a long battle with ALS, ultimately losing him in 1978. No matter how much time passed since losing him, she continued to hold him close to her heart, what a beautiful reunion that must have been.
Sue was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church. She was passionate and strong in her faith and walk with Christ. Some would say she was a direct line of communication to Heaven.
Sue is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Fran Crumley and Dean and Teresa Crumley, four grandchildren, Hunter (Leah) Crumley, Chris (Liz) Crumley, Stephanie (Cody) Teems, and Chelsey Crumley, and four great grandchildren, Kylee, Abby, Lydia, and Ella.
Sue’s greatest gift was the love she had for her family and church family. She enjoyed volunteering at church, singing in the choir, reading, cooking Sunday lunch for her family, and gathering with her friends for breakfast.
To know Sue was to love Sue. She was “Nanny” to her grandchildren, but also to her community. She was a beaming light; kind, joyful, loving, nurturing, devoted and generous. She was always quick to serve those around her. She was a safe place; comforting, protective, and supportive.
Anybody that knew Sue, knows exactly where she went. Although Sue has gone to her Heavenly Home, and she will be missed dearly, her influence and spirit continues to live in all of those that were blessed to call her Nanny.
Please join the family in celebrating and cherishing the life they shared with Nora “Sue” Crumley. Visitation and Service will take place at Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Greenville, on April 3, 2025, Visitation from 12:00p -1:15pm, Service beginning at 1:30pm. Burial Service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. The family is at the home of Dean and Teresa Crumley.
