Peter James Buchanan

Born in Travelers Rest, SC, he was the son of the late James Hamilton Buchanan and Ida Lee Batson Buchanan. He was predeceased by his brother, Marvin Buchanan.

Surviving are his children, Jeff Buchanan and Mandy Buchanan (Tim Reardon); his step-children Mandy Dorn, Lenda Jordan, and Julie Jordan; grandchildren Davis and Caroline Reardon and Charlotte Huntley; nephew Sean Bryan and niece Debbi Gorby; dear friends Buddy and Janet Jennings and Betty Sizemore.

Pete is also survived by his wife Carol’s family, who embraced him as a member, and his treasured friends at Caine Halter YMCA.

He attended Travelers Rest High School and Furman University. He served in the Army Reserves for six years. He began his career in banking and spent most of his working years as a business administrator for orthopedic clinics in Greenville and Spartanburg.

A life-long athlete, he played football, basketball, and baseball at TRHS and baseball at Furman. He was an avid runner for many years and completed the Marine Corps and New York City Marathons. In retirement, he enjoyed many a day on the golf course.

Pete had wonderful friends from every part of his life - high school, college, running friends, and golf friends. He was a devoted regular at the Caine Halter YMCA where he practiced the sport of visiting and chatting with his fellow gym-goers each morning.

A service will be held Monday, April 8, at 1:00 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn, followed by a reception with family and friends at the same location. Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn is located at 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville SC, 29607. Honorary escorts will be Tim Reardon, Davis Reardon, Sean Bryan, Buddy Jennings, and John Lambert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caine Halter YMCA/YMCA of Greenville.
