Raul Roberto Lopez, 78, husband of Sarah Kay Lopez died on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at his residence. Born May 1, 1944 in Rosario Argentina. He was the son of the late Juan Bautista Lopez and Catalina Parola Lopez.
He was raised in Argentina until 1959 when he moved to Philadelphia, PA with his parents and sister Rachael. He graduated with a GED and obtained an apprenticeship as a type setter. While in Pennsylvania he joined the Army National Guard where he served six years and was honorably discharged. He was a true patriot and loved this Country. He was also extremely proud of his Argentinian heritage.
Raul and his family moved to South Carolina in 1980. He joined a typesetting company in Greenville, which he later purchased. He owned two other businesses, which included various rental properties and a tire store. Raul was truly a character and lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel loved. He was never short on funny stories, which may or may not have been true, never the less they were always great. He loved tango music and dancing. He was an active bee keeper, loved the YMCA and was a member on the American Legion. Raul loved his friends and especially his breakfast bunch on Saturday mornings. He was an avid fan of Argentina’s National soccer team. In the last few weeks, watching his beloved soccer team play in the World Cup Series gave him great joy.
Raul is survived by his children; Steven (Jennifer) Lopez; Michael Lopez; David (Patricia) Lopez; Tony (Laurie) Rackley; and Tina (Jimmy) Gulledge. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Cieara (Mason) Shiflet; Madeline; Ian; Zoie; Cody; Rhame (Michael) Neubauer; Gordon (Lindley) Gulledge; and Wallace (Jay) Davis.
He was predeceased by both parents; a sister, Rachael Lopez, as well as Emily and Austin Rackley.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 11am in the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
