

Robert Buford Landers, Sr. of Greenville, South Carolina was born April 10, 1920 and passed away on September 17, 2016 at Evergreen Place in Rolling Green Village. He was married for sixty years to the late Ruth Vozelle Martin Landers. Following his service to the U.S. Navy as a civilian welder at Pearl Harbor from 1941 to 1945, Buford returned to Greenville where he worked for Hughes Lumber Company building homes in the Paris Mountain area. He soon became an independent General Contractor and built custom homes and apartment projects in Greenville for over forty years. Buford once served as President of the Greenville Homebuilders Association and went on to co-found Greenville Builders Supply, now known as GBS Lumber Company, serving as its first President and General Manager.
Buford is survived by his son, Robert Buford Landers, Jr. of Greenville and his daughter Beverly Jane Dauphinais of Woodstock, Georgia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily and Chad Dauphinais, Season Buchanan and Shelley Boone and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Jocille Landers Patterson (Fred) and Tommie Landers Moessner (Al).
The family would like to thank his loving caretakers at Evergreen and the staff at Rolling Green who visited often and took the time to make his years there happy and joyful. The family also requests no flowers and that any remembrances be made in his name to the Building Fund at Earle Street Baptist Church, 225 West Earle Street, Greenville, SC 29609.
A brief memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
