Eugene here, may not know me, back in college Rob and I good pals. Just heard of his passing and hit like truck. Condollences to family and friend.

Rob, you have been a great friend to me for over 8 years. You had so many nicknames for everyone including yourself. As I reflect I knew it was your way of treasuring people. When you found out I was a veterinarian and had traveled the world saving endangered species it all started. You gave me a weekly nickname from giraffe whisperer to Panda Party of Five, peacock logo, Animal Planet girl and routinely you’d leave me voicemails stating an endangered species had been spotted in Upstate South Carolina. My favorite game was when you called stating you had a news story and needed an animal expert witness on Lizard Man in Liberty, Sasquatch in Suwanee, a Swamp Rabbit in Cleveland Park or Reedy Ribbits cousin in Roebuck. I still fall over laughing at all your animal jokes about me. The next week you convinced me the Atlanta Braves were the greatest baseball team. A group of us packed up and headed to Atlanta with you. You then sat next to me at the game and called every play in my ear as it happened and had brought new people into our section - the whole section around us laughing so hard. I still have a road cone in my trunk from my dads construction site. You said to make sure I always traveled with a road cone and to keep it in the airplane with me. When Dad and I flew the small plane you convinced me y’all sat on 385 and waved to me from the ground. You called me one day and said the Panda Tour Bus had been spotted on Woodruff Road. Sure enough sitting at Ale House patio one night it stopped in the Gas Station across the street. You had me look online to see how much a bus ticket cost. You knew my love &passion for animals, travel, and Clemson Tigers. You loved to pick on me -one year on my birthday you gave me giraffe print socks and a Clemson Tiger blanket. You always beat me at basketball at Dave & Busters.  I could keep going and yes I still have your voicemails saved to make me laugh on a tough day at work. Roll Tide, Giggity, Reedy. Keep the smiles flowing ! 

FROM BIRTH TO LAST SATURDAY YOU MADE A LIFE OF COAL INTO DIAMONDS !     YOU ENDURED SO MUCH PAIN AND TROUBLE AND BECAME A SHINING EXAMPLE OF HOW TO MAKE LIFE WONDERFUL.   YOUR MOTHER AND I WILL MISS YOU DEARLY  !

As I sit and try to wrap my mind around the fact  you are not with us any longer, I find myself  being selfish. You and I no longer get to  talk everyday as you navigate your way to work-out. No more crazy drivers on the highway for you to harass. No more Bobble heads and memes shared between us. No more almost breaking my ribs from your strong loving arms. No more downtown strolls when we're home visiting and details about what restaurants are new and which ones are worth dining at. I just plain miss you! Even though it hurts me to my core, I know  you are pain-free and don't need to worry about anything anymore.  Your life was a blessing to me from the time Mom and Dad brought you home, even if you did cry for months. I enjoyed our Big Wheel races around the concrete path in dad's barn even though we never really new who was faster. And I am so sorry I dropped you the first time I held you. At least I was sitting down. Thank you for being an awesome, loving, fun uncle to my girls. They love you so much and know it won't be the same here without you.  I'll see you on the other side, li'l brother. Until then...

You had a kind heart, and were a reliable and always funny friend.

While I only got to know you for a short time, it was nothing but a pleasure working with you on the 2019 Golf for Greenville charity campaign. Your positive energy and enthusiasm always filled up the room and you were always willing and happy to help. You will be missed. Rest easy big guy. 

Rob,  it was a supreme pleasure and a privilege to work with you at WSPA. You were a true gent and a professional and I thank you for the kind gift you gave to my daughter Ana when she was born in Greenville, SC on Feb. 11, 2008.  I admired your combination of being a very positive person and a dedicated journalist. Simply put, you were a very nice guy. I am sorry you didn't have the benefit of additional years on earth, but the quality of life you packed into your time here was substantial. God bless, my friend. Rest in Peace. Love, Ed and family.

Rob Landreth was a journalist, a storyteller, a humorist and a friend. 

His editorial instincts guided our reporting, his sharp wit reminded us to laugh and his jovial spirit enriched the newsroom. 

In an industry marked by flickering friendships, he was a steady presence. 

He was so many other things, too — professional, kind, generous and genuine. 

He was a force in his own right. 

He was, in a word, unforgettable. 

Rob, you will be truly missed. Your sense of humor, the ability to make one laugh, always wonderful memories. I will definitely miss the phone calls. Your voice on the other end talking about a news event I just covered and posted to Facebook. News, it was in your blood and never left. We have it from here brother. Rest easy.

There isnt enough space to write out all of our memories together. From the childhood choke slams, late night hockey and krispy kreme runs, to midnight chats and me and the kids playing around with you all the time. Friday morning you looked at me and said, Have a good day at work Ashley." I said, "You have a good day too Bobby," In our funny voices we always did with each other.  He went to so many charity functions and helped people. He's the best writer I know. He had odds against Him but never gave up or quit trying to become better. I saw him every day. Now i pray for peace and comfort for my entire family and his friends as he impacted so many people. Its not goodbye, its see you later Bobby. Even though I hated when you would run up and squeeze me i wish you would do it one more time.

Rob taught me many things in the last six months that I worked along his side. 

-You should get in to the office before Rob. 
One morning, I was late coming in, by the time I got to my cube, Rob had convinced a few coworkers that I had been "walked-off" the premises by security due to an altercation in the parking lot and wouldn't be able to make my meeting.  

-You shouldn't be surprised by Rob's stories. 
One day Rob comes "Kramering" into my cubicle, eyes wide and says, “You won't believe this… I was in the bathroom washing my hands. I heard some commotion. I looked in the mirror and over my shoulder and I saw something above the stall thrusting about. Then all of a sudden the door flings open and out walks a 7ft frog!” He catches his breath and continues slowly, “I thought about calling my doctor to adjust my meds til I realized ‘Reedy Rip’It’ from the Greenville Drive is visiting campus today.”

-There were no bounds to Rob's ability to care and connect with people. 
By the time Rob was here for two weeks, he was already involved in Fluor’s nonprofit fundraising groups, volunteering at events, and participating in planning meetings. His cubicle was connected to mine, all day I heard him conversing and laughing with people. Going out of his way to find out what they needed, even though he had deadlines. (Deadlines he always met.) Every day, he would walk in and say to me, “Let me know what you need help with.”

I know my heart is one of many, many broken hearts today, because to know Rob was truly to love Rob. I will miss you beyond measure. You were the BEST teammate and friend.

When I was at The Greenville News, Rob was a VIP of our high school sports coverage for several years.  We could ask Rob to chase a score or do something else and could count on it being done ... and done correctly. Having recently lost a son almost Rob's age, I know the pain and hurt Rob's family is suffering. May The Lord give you peace and strength.

That smile. We will never erase it from our memory. Rob Landreth’s smile will never fade. He is the perfect example of what we are all reminded of from time to time. How they made you FEEL. It lasts.  It’s your legacy. Rob made people feel good. He was there for us. It’s why he will be so sorely missed. Thank you Rob for caring so deeply. And loving so fully. 

Rob had a heart of gold- he was always pleasant and caring, and was the highlight of my day when the weather was quiet and work was caught up.  We’d trade stories at the desk and make each other laugh. Rob had an awesome chuckle! Once he killed a roaming wasp in my office, and I loved how he would say “Oh Snap.”  

He kept in touch after he left the station and I was honored and humbled by that- he would send funny texts when the weather turned crazy, and suddenly the world wasn’t so heavy.  Sometimes we’d just catch up and talk by phone..

On evening fun liveshots he’d sometimes walk up to visit. There aren’t many people as kind and friendly and selfless as Rob- he always had time to talk. I love you, Rob! Thank you so much for being my friend! YOU are a blessing. ❤️

Rob and I connected just within the last year.  We bonded over the news business and our love for hiking. We went to Table Rock State Park and did one of the most difficult trails there. Rob never gave up. He had such a giving spirit. He recently donated to my hike to support Make-A-Wish and wanted to help me fundraise.  He also took the time to drop by the Turkey Day 5k Run that benefitted Greer Conmunity Ministries.  When I told him they were in need of canned fruit, he brought it to the race. I’m sorry our friendship was cut short but am forever grateful for his kind and giving spirit.  

I found a bunch of emails the other day Rob sent me when I was going through a really tough breakup. I forgot how many late night phone chats we shared and how many texts we shared during that time. Rob sent me a 5 pound bag of gummy worms and flowers when I had to start life over again back in NY. And ever since he always sent me candy and flowers to mark every heartbreak and success in my life. I miss his late night random texts. I am so angry I didn’t come visit sooner as Rob asked me over 1k Times. Everytime he was out he would send me a photo and say I miss you and I wish you were here. He texted me the night before he died and I fell asleep and am so sad I didn’t get to answer. I’m so sorry I didn’t answer. 

Rob I love and miss you. 

"Happy Birthday to the best nephew that I could've ever hoped for....actually more like little brother I could've hoped for! I am EXTREMELY PROUD of YOU!!!!!" 
 I cant count how many times over the last couple of days I have gone back and read this text message from you.  Wasnt long ago that I hugged you,  told you that I love you and that I would see you soon.  I wish I could go back and make that hug longer and tell you that if anything, I am the one that is nothing but proud of you.  No matter what life threw your way(and it was alot) you never gave up.  Cant say that about most people these days.  Most of yall knew him as Rob or Bobby but for me you will always be my uncle boob.  I love you buddy.

I’m still in disbelief that you aren’t here anymore. You and I sat side by through great stories, terrible stories, failed live shots, and the list could go on and on. You always had a positive attitude and could bang out a written story like no one’s business. 
I, like so many would like one more chat with you.

For scores of corporate spokespersons, Rob’s gentle, honest, earnest voice greeting us on the newsroom phone was a relief: We would be heard, and our stories had a chance of being told. In the shifting landscape of media, these moments of grace and kindness are a rarity, and those who preserve it have illustrated the true soul of the news: a flicker of truth, burning bright and hot, if only for a brief moment, bringing contrast to the shadows of everything else crowding our lives. Rob held a candle, and it burned bright and hot—and it’s our great misfortune to comprehend this brief moment in time that should have lasted much longer—a life characterized by telling others’ stories. I’ll never forget his own story, and pray that these words, although a poor substitute for who they memorialize,  carry the energy of the grace he gave me and many others. We give it back to his spirit, and to his family. Your story, Rob, should’ve been longer, but your heart stays with us, and your legacy can never be extinguished.

I MISS HIM MORE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW 

I cant help but call my brother, Bobby.  I am absolutely heartbroken that my brother is gone and I live so far away. I didnt get a chance to hug him one last time and tell him how much I love him. He wrote me a letter in 2017  and I have read it over and over.  He loved writing and was an Amazing writer!  I will remember  all the special times we had at Cape Hatteras! 

Many of you call him Rob, I can't help but call him Bobby.  He has been an amazing brother-in-law for 20+ years since I joined the Landreth family by marrying his sister Angie.  He was an awesome uncle to our two daughters, they miss him terribly.  

I have several favorite memories, I'll list only the top 4. 
1.  The day I met Bobby--my girlfriend (now wife), took me to meet her family at her parents house.  Bobby comes busting out the front door and lifts her horizontally like sideways over his head. She was 7+ feet in the air... I didn't know what to do other than laugh and pray he did not drop her.  He has been making me laugh ever since. 

2.  My youngest daughter Kate has a yearly Putt Putt tournament with him in which they were both captains and chose their teams.  The trash talking lasted until the next year.  We will all miss that.

3.  He came to visit us in Boulder, CO and thought he could walk through a raging river.  It knocked him down and took one of his flip-flops.  Reflecting on that moment always makes us laugh; as the gentle giant was scared, shocked, bewildered, and had to make his way back to the car with only one flip-flop.  

4. I will miss our conversations; be it about sports, family, or just plain old funny non-sense.  Bobby related to children by heckling and joking; and to the elderly with respect and patience.  

I love and will miss you Bobby!
