

Sylvia Suzowsky Idelson, 88, of Travelers Rest, SC passed away on January 22, 2018. Sylvia was born in Queens, NY to the late Samuel Suzowsky and Celia Brown Suzowsky. She graduated with her B.A. from Queens College as a music major. An accomplished musician, she went on to have a career as a classical pianist and harpsichord player. Highlights included a concerto appearance with the New York Philharmonic. She played with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Claude Monteux Quartet, and other chamber groups. She taught piano at Bard College, and later worked as a collaborative pianist at Furman University.
She is survived by her husband Albert Idelson; two daughters: Lauren Eselson( Jack Wilson) and Karen Eselson Belding ( Mark Belding); three grandchildren: Rachel Wilson, Hannah Wilson and Samuel Belding; brother Morton Sanders, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Sheila Dorrer, Allan and Stuart Idelson. Her sister Mildred Weissman predeceased her.
In addition to her life of music, Sylvia was a very skilled amateur photographer, an avid athlete and outdoors lover. She swam at the Masters Level, and enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and sailing and won several awards for her photography.
