Thelma Owens Compton

Thelma Owens Compton, age 99, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Conway, SC. She is the widow of Paul Marvin Compton, Sr. and the daughter of the late Claude Erwin and Cora Lee Owens.

Mrs. Compton retired from J.P. Stevens in Dunean, SC. She subsequently worked part time at the Greenville County Registration & Election Office and at the Fresh Market. She is a former member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Compton is survived by her loving children Paul M. Compton, Jr. of Goodnight, TX, Judith C. Green and husband Michael of Conway, SC, and Kenneth E. Compton and wife Kaye of Spartanburg, SC. She has seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Compton is also survived by her sister, Ann Smith and husband Champ of The Villages, FL, and her sister-in-law Marge Owens of Greenville, SC. She is predeceased by her sisters Helen King, Evangeline McCarley and Geraldine Cooper, and by her brothers Roy Owens, Douglas Owens and Austin Owens.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
