

Thomas Charles Black, of Taylors, peacefully went to be with his Lord on September 26, 2015. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Bartow and Henrietta Black, on April 7, 1928. The family moved to Taylors, SC when Charles was three. Charles graduated from Taylors High School and as a young man, he worked in his family business at Black and Tanner Lumber Company. He also worked as a farmer, postal worker, fireman, and maintenance foreman. As a fireman, he rose to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. He later was the maintenance foreman for Polymer Southern and then Morton-Thiokol chemical plants. He was an active member and served at Hampton Heights Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. His wife of 52 years, Doris Cannada, preceded him in death. They had two sons. He is survived by his wife, Betty Settle Black, his two sons, John Bartow (Jan) of Tallahassee, FL and Charles Allen (Tenita) of Greer, SC. Charles also leaves behind four grandchildren, Thomas (Robyn), Julie (Robert McKinney), Jared (Ruth) and Travis (Madeline), and one great-grandchild, Grant McKinney. Charles loved to show off his great-grandson at every opportunity.Visitation will be at Hampton Heights Baptist Church at 11:30 am on Tuesday, September 29, with the service immediately following at 12:30 pm and entombment in Woodlawn Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or to Hampton Heights Baptist Church. www.woodlawn-fh.com
