William Proctor Cary

Bill was born May 20, 1922 in Morristown, TN to Ellis B. and Doakie P. Cary. He grew up in Morristown and Rogersville, TN and attended East Tennessee State University, where he played football. During WWII he was a pilot instructor in the Military Reserves and loved flying. Bill spent most of his adult career as a project manager with Daniel Construction and later Yeargin Construction; managing large industrial projects throughout the southeast. Although he and his family lived in TN, VA and GA, in 1969 they chose Greenville as their permanent home.

Bill was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, June S. Cary, brother Bud, and sister Margaret Walker.

Bill is survived by his spouse Jeanne; daughters Jill C. Brown (Donnie) and Jan C. Dillard (Dennis), and son, William E. Cary (Sandy); grandchildren Kevin Brown, Adam Dillard and Cary Dillard Johnstone; five great-grandchildren and brother Robert.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home located at 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, S.C with Chaplin Paul Jagoe, officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
