Born on August 31, 1958, in Yadkinville, NC, Wilma lived a life filled with love, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Wilma was the proud mother of two children, Kristen (White) Sprouse and Shane White, and Mimi to Jhawnluc Jr. and Duane Cole Sprouse. She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Gaze and Pamela Woodacre. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Harold and Ethel Southard.
She spent many years as a loan officer with American Federal, where she cared deeply for the people she served. Later, she poured her heart into running her own plant nursery, a reflection of her lifelong passion for gardening and landscaping. Whether she was tending to flowers or designing a beautiful space, Wilma’s touch brought life and joy wherever it landed.
Animals always held a special place in Wilma’s heart, especially her beloved horse, Leo, with whom she loved to vacation with at the beach numerous times and her faithful dog, Tippi, who was always by her side. Those who knew her will always picture her happiest out in nature, surrounded by the things she loved most.
Beyond her work and hobbies, Wilma will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and the friendships she nurtured over a lifetime. Her closest friends stood by her through thick and thin, and her family takes comfort in knowing she was so deeply loved by many. And, in true Wilma fashion, her family can’t help but to notice she managed to make her heavenly arrival just a little early—making up for all those times she showed up late to every event on earth. Her family takes peace in knowing she is in the hands of the Lord without pain any longer.
Services for Wilma will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. A visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, with a funeral service in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Committal will be held in the park following the service.
Wilma’s memory will live on in the gardens she created, the trails she rode, and in the hearts of all who knew her.
