Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Maurice and Rose Smoler. He attended University of Massachusetts - Lowell and was employed at Smoler Brothers, Inc., an apparel company. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf, excelled at sports trivia, and adored his grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters, Susan Merrick (Daniel Merrick) of Greenwich, CT, Peggy Schecter (Scott Schecter) of Rye, NY, and Lee Schube (Peter Schube) of Los Angeles,CA and six grandchildren, Sam Schube, Lexi Merrick, Jenny Schecter, Will Schube, Vaughan Merrick and James Schecter. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Helene Morris Smoler.
