Efrosine Amendola, born in Brooklyn New York January 8th 1922, the oldest of two children to her parents Xanthippe and Afendoulis Georgiadis. She is now with her younger brother Tom who passed several years ago. A truly amazing family of hard working, caring, and loving immigrant family from Greece that survived the first world war, and traveled and settled in America to begin a better life, and no better example than the oldest daughter Efrosine.
Efrosine passed just before 9:00pm on Sunday December 29th peacefully and surrounded by her extended family at her home, only 10 days before her birthday when she would have been 103 years old. Fortunately she was able to share a Christmas celebration with her children Richard, Alfred, Sandy, and the youngest of four Cynthia. Efrosine used her final days to remind her children, grand children, and great grand children of how truly special she was to all that came to know her as their loving Yia Yia.
Every Christmas became an annual celebration at home for Yia Yia to share many wonderful memories with friends and family from her amazing life, which each year only got better. Never sick, never angry, never late, always dressed with impeccable taste, and grace that filled the room for every holiday. Never a complaint, never a burden, rather the one that was always there to guide and support her large family.
Words cannot properly describe such an amazing woman to all of us that knew her best. Her devoted husband Frank left her too young, at the age of 70, and she often mentioned how much she missed him. They were an inseparable pair, and spent their lives together putting family first and helping friends during times of need. Together they were the definition of unselfish and giving good souls.
While she left this earth late Sunday, we know that her dreams of finally being reunited with her dearest husband Frank, and with her parents and brother Tom will be a joyful beginning for her new life with God. She is an example for us all on how to live a long life of sharing, giving, and guided by her strong christian values.
We know Yia Yia is forever grateful for all the support, love, and care given to her by family and friends that were so helpful during these final months of life.
She will be missed but never forgotten. We celebrate her life today, and we are reminded that she will continue to guide us forever with her perpetual spirit and in the name of God.
We love you Yia Yia. A life of hope, love and kindness shared by everyone to ever know you and may you rest in peace.
With Prayers,
Your Family
