My wife, Freddie, and I first met Ban 47 years ago at the Belle Haven Club. Over the years we came to respect her open, honest friendship - and more important - what she stood for.
Her paintings, when on exhibit, were evocative of a time and place; and so meaningful that we always discussed them later. They were that good. At a high mass, we liked to be seated close to her - for me to get the true pitch of the hymns. Her voice remained true and lovely, never wavering - even as my nearby voice was enthusiastic and off key.
When our home was flooded, Ban generously gave us her condo to use while she was in Michigan. Her artwork was there for us to absorb again. But, more important were the loving photos of her extended family going back for generations. A true tribute from a great granddaughter, granddaughter, and mother to those she cherished.

Oh, how Ban will be missed.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Ban's family. We enjoyed many Greenwich Pen Women events over the years and I remember Ban as a truly lovely and loving lady. Yes, lady -- with refined manners, sparkling enthusiasm, and a happiness about her that emanated so wonderfully to all around her. She will be missed. I will miss her.
