Joanne Villanova

Born on March 13, 1943, in Port Chester, Joanne was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Jennie (Gregorio) Schiro. A lifelong resident of the community she loved, Joanne dedicated much of her life to public service, family, and helping others.

Following the passing of her beloved husband, William, in 1986, Joanne returned to work with the Port Chester Police Department as a civilian typist in the Detective Bureau. She later served in the Port Chester Department of Public Works office, the Village Court, and after a 33-year career she ultimately retired in 2020 from the Village Department of Violations. In addition to her work for the Village of Port Chester, Joanne devoted many years to the Town of Rye as a part-time Deputy Town Clerk.

Joanne was deeply involved in civic and community organizations throughout her life. She proudly served as Past President of the Rye Town Women’s Republican Club, the Port Chester Lions Club, and numerous PTA organizations. Known for her generosity and remarkable cooking, Joanne lovingly prepared meals for countless gatherings and community events over the decades. Whether she was cooking for 20 people or 200, she never hesitated to lend a helping hand, and no request was ever too great.

In addition to her husband William and her parents Joseph and Jennie, Joanne was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Schiro. She is survived by her loving sons, William Villanova and his wife Sandra, and Robert Villanova and his wife Stephanie; her cherished grandchildren, Gianna, William Jr., Nicholas, Lorenzo, and Luciano; and by her caring extended family, Renee Carlucci, Pat Romano; the Schiro Family and Borgioli Family. Joanne will be remembered for her warmth, devotion to family, tireless service to her community, and generous spirit.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation Sunday, 4 to 7pm May 17, 2026, at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home 31 Arch Street in Greenwich. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10:30am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by an Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.
