Merle L Caywood

Merle Law Caywood, 89, sixty year resident of Niantic, Connecticut, died peacefully on August 26, 2017 in Greenwich, CT. She was born July 9, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Merrill Law and Roberta (Ferris) Law Karbarz. She was married to John H. Caywood in Hartford, CT on August 14, 1948. She worked as a secretary for The Supervisor of Shipbuilding, United States Navy in Groton, CT retiring in 1989. She was a graduate of Mitchell College earning a BA in Liberal Arts. She was a talented artist specializing in watercolors. She enjoyed traveling, reading, politics, gardening, and sewing. She was a lover of all animals and an astute observer of nature. She is survived by her loving family; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Jan Caywood of Arlington, TX; two daughters, Nancy Caywood of Brooklyn, CT, and Michelle Caywood and her partner MJ Quigley of Port Chester, NY; a sister, Janet Foster of Niantic, CT; six grandchildren, Stephen and Alan Caywood, Laura Kindred, Daniel, Jeffrey and Kathryn Fagnant; and two great-grandchildren, Layla Price and Maggie Kindred. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Janet; and two brothers, Raymond Law and Dewitt Law. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday August 30 at 11:00 am at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
