

Michel Kramer-Metraux, 75, died on December 4 at his home in Old Greenwich, CT. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Lois, his sons, Olivier (Ilene) Kramer, Patrick (Jennifer) Kramer, his step-children, Kirstin (Darren) Drabek, C.G. O’Rielly and Erin O’Rielly, and his grandchildren, Trent, Sara, Sophia, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Teddy. Michel was born on April 2, 1940 in Lyon, France. He received his baccalaureate in France and continued his education in textiles in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1963 and had a successful career in the fashion industry, which included creating his own line of men’s ties under the label, Michel Cravat, successfully building the Sulka brand worldwide, creating boutique businesses at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City and continuing his men’s fashion expertise at Neiman Marcus. He made deep and lasting relationships with the clients with whom he worked throughout the years. He was a member of The Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) and was featured in The New York Time’s One in 8 Million segment. He had a life-long love of sailing and was a member of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club. He also had a special affinity for Shelter Island and shared his love of the island with his family through family gatherings and holidays at their home on Chase Creek. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he impacted, including family, friends, and business relationships.
