
William F. Degler, 85, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home in Greenwich, CT following a lengthy illness. He leaves his beloved wife of 28 years, Lillian S. Degler, his brother, Dr. Carl N. Degler of Palo Alto, CA, his sons, Erick of Texas, Kirk of Bethesda, MD, his stepdaughter Sydney Osler and her husband David of Stamford, CT, and four grandchildren.
Born in Newark, NJ, at the age of 18, Mr. Degler attended the Merchant Marine Academy where he was drafted into the Army, spending much of his time in Central Europe during WWII. After graduating from Howard University, he remained in Washington, D.C., moving to the Greenwich area in 2002. Mr. Degler was a well known architect in the D.C. area where he was employed by the District government. His expertise and reputation led him to be named President of Architects in Government and he was a respected member of the American Institute of Architects. Before his death, Mr. Degler wished to thank the nurses on the first floor of Nathaniel Witherell for their compassionate care and his wife for her constant devotion and love.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home on Saturday, September 17,th, 2011 at 2PM.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.
