Daisy Mae Morris, 85, of Greenwood, AR was called to her heavenly home on May 26, 2023, while she was peacefully asleep at home in her bed. She was born 2:45 AM October 9, 1937, to the late Charles Kenneth Morris and Loretta Mae Stanley in Mountain Home, AR. She graduated from Mountain Home High School. On June 10, 1956, she married her husband for life, Burnie L. Morris, who was called home before her on January 24, 2013. Oh the fun of being from Arkansas and telling people your parents were both a Morris.
Mom was an incredible wife and mother, raising four rambunctious sons. She was the epitome of selfless sacrificial love. She was a pillar of affection, encouragement, and perseverance, choosing grace, truth, and love to communicate and correct. So many refer to her as “Sweet Daisy”. Hers was a life of devotion for her husband, sons, their wives, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gwamma Daisy thoughtfully and tirelessly invested in the lives and relationships of her Grands and Greats. She was a cherished sister with a weekly phone call and a beloved sister-in-law grateful for her marriage family. Her love abounded for all the nieces, nephews, and extended families. She truly knew that relationships are all that really matter in life.
MaeMae worked several years in the front office at Mar-Bax Shirt Co. in Gassville, AR, a business of Capital Mercury Apparel Ltd., retiring in 1986. She and Burnie then lived a few years in Tulsa, OK and Arlington, TX before his retirement and move to Fort Smith, AR and then into their new and final home in Greenwood, AR in 2005. She was a member of the treasured body of West Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith, AR. She came to faith in Christ in the 1960’s at a revival in Tulsa, OK. She had a sharp mind and impressive memory, watching Jeopardy daily as she enjoyed competing against the contestants and keeping record of her answers and misses. She enjoyed the history of her family tree and of Mountain Home and Baxter County, AR. She enjoyed the beauty and wonder of hummingbirds. A great pleasure was sending cards, and she greatly appreciated ones received. She never ever let a card or photo go to waste as evidenced by the boxes of cards received and the sheer volume of her meticulous photo albums. She honored and valued others.
Daisy Mae is survived by her four sons, Tracy L. Morris of Arlington, TX, Bryan N. Morris (Kelley) of Euless, TX, Gregory L. Morris (Missy) of Greenwood, AR and Douglas K. Morris (Tanya) of Greenville, SC; sister, Caunita Schaede of Wichita, KS; four granddaughters, four grandsons, eleven great-grandchildren with two on the way. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Edgar “Sonny” Morris.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 2 at West Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith with burial the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Thursday from 1 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. The family will also visit with friends and family before the service beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Landon Morris, Spencer Morris, Jared Morris, Jared Scantling, Garron Cabe and Kent Schaede. Honorary pallbearers will be Myles Hamm, Marvin Brandon, Steve Litty and Joe Owens.
