

Evelyn Ann Smith, 76, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011 at her home near Hackett, AR. She was born August 30, 1935 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Colonel Carter and Mary L. Johnson. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Wayne Smith, a granddaughter, Kasey Lee Hadlock and a great granddaughter, Abigail E. Hadlock (Schott).
Evelyn and Joseph were active in city government in Fountain, Colorado and she was a proud Sergeant for the El Paso County Sheriff’s office in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1974 to 1980. They moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas where she served as a Deputy Sheriff for Sebastian County and as a juvenile detention center Sergeant. She had an associates degree in criminology and is retired from the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Walsh of Van Buren, AR and John Smith of Cedarville, AR; four daughters, Kelly A. Smith and Chickie M. Terrero of Hackett, AR, Evelyn A. Hadlock of Ardmore, OK and Joanne Shook of Fort Smith,AR; ten grandchildren, Amanda Hadlock, Sara Hadlock, Christina Potter, Cynthia Meadows, Tammy Armour, Joseph Walsh, Shannon Shook, Edwin Shook, Becky Smith, and Josh Smith; and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with interment at the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Evelyn was a big animal lover and devoted a lot of her time contributing to the ASPCA and many other charities, especially for children less fortunate in other countries. Her biggest joys were her grandchildren , making sure they always had special holidays and birthdays. She loved her family dearly and wanted nothing more than for them to love each other.
Pallbearers will be Robert Walsh, Steve Hadlock, Richard Cowan, Allan Palmer, Chickie Terrero and Taylor Hicks. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Hadlock, Eddie Hicks, Larry Hicks, and John Smith.
