

Gordon Mayo Richmond, 71, of Fort Smith passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Fort Smith. He was born October 5, 1939 in Greenwood, Arkansas to the late Woodrow and Bernice Mayo Richmond. He was a member of the North 50th Street Church of Christ.
Gordon graduated from Greenwood High School in 1957 and from Fort Smith Junior College in 1959 and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was retired from Reeder Simco, where he worked for over 40 years. He was an avid supporter of UAFS athletics, especially the women’s volleyball team. He was named the booster club member of the year in 2003-2004.
He is survived by his “sis” and brother-in-law, Anita and Phil Woodard of Fort Smith and his brother, Doug Richmond of Fort Smith. He was fondly referred to as “Gor Gor” by his two nieces, Jennifer Woodard Atchley and her husband, Steve of Fort Smith and Courtney Woodard Boerner and husband, Craig of Nashville, Tennessee; four great nephews and nieces, Blaine and Bailey Atchley of Fort Smith and Addison and Emery Boerner of Nashville; a niece, Amy Williamson and husband, Darel and family of Greenwood; and numerous cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, October 7 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood. Viewing will be Thursday from 1 – 9 pm at the funeral home. You may visit the family at 5709 Hardscrabble Way in Fort Smith. There will also be visitation at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 – 2 pm.
Pallbearers will be James Welch, Greg Bader, Delbert McConnell, J.D. Mayo, Ronnie Richmond, Dudley Johnson, Herschel Cole and David Reeder.

Gordon will be truly missed by those of us who loved him. He was a special person.
