

Terry Dale Smith, 58, of Fort Smith departed this life into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was born on December 17, 1954 to Arvil “Buddy” and Joyce Smith. Terry graduated from Mansfield High School in 1973. He worked as the Customer Service Claims Manager at ABF Freight Systems for thirty-four years. Terry was a member of the Greenwood First Free Will Baptist Church. Serving the Lord through his church was priority and held a special place in Terry’s life. He possessed a true servant’s heart, serving as a Deacon and various other capacities through past years. He had a gift for and invested many hours coaching and training youth in Bible Sword Drill Competition. He was a faithful husband and a Dad and Papa who loved and led by example.
Terry is survived by his wife of forty years, Janet Williams Smith; a son, Alan Smith of Springdale, AR; one daughter, Melissa Smith of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Austin, Makenzie and Logan, who will truly miss their Papa’s presence in their lives. Terry is also survived by his mother, Joyce Smith; two sisters, Carla Hardin and Becky Smith; several nieces, nephews as well as, a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Buddy Smith and a granddaughter, Cambry Paige Smith.
A Going Home celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Greenwood First Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Walker officiating. Burial will be at Coop Prairie Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m., where family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Russell Thomas, Jeff Been, Steve Coleman, Sumler Conrad, Randy East and Brad Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Sword Drill Competitors 1994-2011. “And take the helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17.
