Surrounded by his family, Albert Oscar Cook, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, due to heart failure at Mt. Hood Legacy Medical Center. He was ready to reunite with the love of his life, Ardean, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2016.
Albert was born on June28, 1933, in Far Rockaway, New York, to John and Alice Cook. During his childhood, the family relocated to Carmel, New York. Amid the World War II-era migration for shipbuilding opportunities, Albert’s father moved to Portland, Oregon, for work at the Kaiser shipyards. His mother courageously drove across the country with their five children to join him. Albert attended Woodstock Grade School and later Benson Tech, where he pursued a plumbing apprenticeship. The Cook family eventually settled on a farm near 194th and Stark Street in Portland.
As a young man, Albert and his brother Carl operated pony rides at Oaks Park. It was there that he met Ardean one evening; she was a regular roller skater at the rink. They married in Stevenson, Washington, in 1953 when Albert served in the Army at Fort Lewis. After his service, Albert worked as a plumber and later founded Moonlight Plumbing before venturing into real estate and construction alongside Ardean with their company “Aldean Construction.” Together they developed properties and traveled extensively making it a priority to explore the world with their family.
Upon retirement, Albert and Ardean enjoyed winters in La Quinta, California, where Albert took up golf and cherished playing with friends, including actress Elke Sommer. Known for his humor and storytelling, Albert captivated everyone with his wit and charisma. A devoted family man and tireless worker, his legacy lives on through those who knew him.
Albert and Ardean had three children: Michael John (who passed away in 1987), Randall Lynn, and Trisha Ann (Neiger). They were blessed with four grandchildren: Michael John Jr., Jessica Leigh, Amelia Ann, and Austin Albert.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 7th from 2–4 p.m. at Bateman-Carroll Funeral Home at 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham, OR.
