

Barbara Lou Langley, a resident of East County Portland, passed away on December 30, 2010 in Portland. She was 84 years of age.
Barbara was born on August 28, 1926 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee and was the daughter of Millard and Daisy (Wright) Duggins. She graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1944 and attended Draughon Business College in Knoxville, Tennessee from 1945-1946. In 1947 she went to work as a stenographer and secretary for the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
On May 8, 1953, she married Jesse Kenneth Langley in her hometown of Oliver Springs. She ended her employment with the Atomic Energy Commission in 1956 and fit nicely into the role of homemaker. In 1957, they moved to Florence, Alabama where Barbara was the President of the Ladies Golf Association at Florence Country Club. In 1970 they moved to Massena, New York and in 1975 they moved west to Oregon where they resided in their East County Portland Home.
Barbara was a classy, well dressed southern woman with a gift for southern hospitality. She was kind and gracious and always looked forward to an opportunity to be a hostess or serve others. She also had a quiet strength about her that was truly admirable. She was simply a great wife, mom and grandma who will be deeply missed by her family.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ken Langley of Portland, sons, Michael Langely and David Langley both of Portland and one granddaughter, Callie Langley. Her sisters, Elizabeth and Lillian both preceded her in death.
A visitation and celebration of Barbara’s Life will be on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 10:00 am -5:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Private Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Barbara to the Alzheimer’s Association.
