Beryl Patricia Cook

Beryl Patricia Cook, 83 of Troutdale OR, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. She was born on October 5, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Nelson and Enid (Dendtler) Kirkwood. She married Robert Vernon Cook on June 9, 1956 in Gresham, Oregon and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2008.

Beryl worked as a nurse practitioner for over 10 years and was a graduate of the University of Portland. She had her own clinic for several years and also worked with Kaiser Permanente. She was an activist for women’s rights and sought out areas to continue her education.

Beryl loved hiking and snow skiing and enjoyed traveling as a member of the Mazama’s Hiking Club. She was an avid reader and writer and loved classical music.

She is survived by her daughter Patty Calcagno (Howard) of Aurora OR; sons Robert Vernon Cook Jr. (Mary) of Troutdale OR, Randal Cook (Mary) of Squaw Valley CA, David Cook of Salem OR and Marc Cook (Cristina Velasco) of Troutdale OR; sister Helen McNichols of Illinois and fourteen grandchildren which includes Randal’s children Aaron Cook, Philip Cook, Mathew Cook, Christopher Cook, Christie Cook and Melodie Cook and Marc’s children Erin Cristina, Robert Vernon and Midori Antonia Cook.

A Celebration of Beryl’s Life will be at 11:00am on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 18090 SE Langensand Road, Sandy OR 97055. Contributions may be made as donations to OPB Radio FM, 7140 SW Macadam Avenue, Portland OR 97219. Arrangements entrusted to Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
