Bill Flatt

Bill was born August 16, 1940 in Lenox, Iowa to Basil and Zilla (Hawthorne) Flatt. The family moved to California when Bill was three years old. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves while he was still in high school and upon his graduation, entered active duty. He served in the Navy from 1959 to 1961, assigned to the USS Yorktown as a photographer’s mate. Bill took many photographs during his three years in the service, although the most notable and impressive photos were taken while he was in Hawaii and Japan. Bill was honorably discharged in 1961 and held a variety of jobs for several years. For most of his career, he worked in maintenance in the health care industry. Bill married Bonnie Hunt on July 4, 1974 in California and they moved to Sandy, Oregon a year later to raise their family. Bill and Bonnie moved to Portland in 2002.

Bill was always interested in photography throughout the years. When he was younger, he had a photography studio and in later years had his own dark room in the garage. Bill was also very interested in genealogy and traced his family back to the 1600s. He loved gardening and landscaping. He also enjoyed camping. Bill liked birds and built birdfeeders and birdhouses for his yard. Most of all, Bill loved his family.

Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Satterstrom. he is survived by his wife, Bonnie Flatt of Portland, Oregon; sons, Dan Flatt of Portland, Oregon; Parker Daughhetee III of Roseville, California; daughters, Charisse O’Neall of Sandy, Oregon; Yvonne Ippolito of Keizer, Oregon; Chantel Flatt of Troutdale, Oregon; brothers, Wayne Flatt of Colorado; Dean Flatt of Sun Valley, California; Dale Flatt of Valencia, California; sisters, Patricia Satterstrom of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; Betty Redmond of Carson City, Nevada; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
