Donald Lee Brown was born June 13, 1934 in West Des Moines, Iowa, to parents Charlie and Ruth, where he grew up in with his siblings Betty and Bob. He moved to Mulino, Oregon with his Dad as a young boy.
Don passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 2, 2021 in the presence of his beloved wife, Cheryl and Sister Ruth. He was 87 years old.
Don met Cheryl Jean in 1966 at a neighbor’s BBQ, when she saw him playing around on a pogo stick. Their first date was at the Kon-Tiki room, followed by a family 4th of July gathering watching the parade and fireworks. They were married September 1966!
Don was the Patriarch of a big family of 6 kids,
9 Grandchildren, and 10 great Grandchildren, but most importantly he was the husband of Cheryl, the love of his life. They were married 55 years. They each brought Dennis, Greg, Sherrie, Jan and Suzanne to the marriage and together they had Don Jr.
Don shared his love of nature, camping, hunting, fishing, and growing a prolific garden with his family. He grew beautiful roses- they were his pride and joy. He was also a farmer, raising pigs, cows and chickens. He was a skilled woodsman, cutting firewood, cedar shakes and posts. He often said that the woods were his church.
He loved his dogs, Fritz, Tasha and Tikki, and especially Dachshunds Roxanne, Rubyanne, Roseanne, and Rosa.
The household was never without a dog.
Don and Cheryl went to Puerta Vallarta Mexico every year for over 35 years- He loved Mexico and especially the people they met there, and the Mariachi music. He was also an avid storyteller. He enjoyed telling tall tales, that became known as "Adventures" to his grandchildren, and he was never without a new one.
Don was a serviceman in the National Guard, then became a Foreman at the Oregonian Newspaper for the next nearly 45 years. He always worked hard for his family. As a young boy he wrote that his greatest ambition was to never be poor again.
The Celebration of Life will be held at The Springwater Church in Gresham, on Sunday, September 12, 2021
at 10am.
A private internment at Lincoln Memorial will follow at a later date.
