

Elsie Sandberg Kinzig, 101 of Portland OR, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017. She was born on December 17, 1915 in Brighton, Utah to Nels and Florence (Edmunds) Sandberg. She graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City and worked at Royal Bakery for seven years. Elsie married Bert Francis Kinzig on June 10, 1943 in Yakima, Washington and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2004.
They lived in Pasco, Washington from 1948 to 1968 and in Scappoose, Oregon from 1968 to 1975 before moving to Portland. Elsie was active as a Girl Scout and 4H leader with her children in mind. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Daughters of the Mayflower. Elsie played organ and piano, enjoyed family history and loved painting.
Elsie is survived by her son Stan Kinzig (Donna) of Tigard OR; daughter Carol; daughter Shirley Powell (Ted) of Blanding UT; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Elsie is also preceded in death by her brother Allen Sandberg and sisters Dorothy Peterson and Helen Craig.
A Celebration of Elsie’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:15am at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
