Frank Wilson Hill, age 87, passed away on April 30, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 16, 1931 to Leo and Mary Hill, the youngest of their 6 children. After serving in the Korean War and attending Brigham Young University for a time, he came to Portland, Oregon to be near his brother, Richard. It was there that he met Janice Lien.
Frank and Janice married on June 5, 1959 and settled permanently in Portland, although Frank often pined for the Florida sunshine. One of their favorite things was to drive to the beach and enjoy a picnic of smoked salmon, Ritz crackers and cheddar cheese at a table overlooking the ocean. Frank and Janice had two children, Diana and Frank Douglas. They enjoyed a marriage that lasted 58 years until Janice died in 2017.
Frank was a plumber and a member of the UA Local 290 Plumber and Steamfitter's Union. He worked on the construction of many buildings in the Portland area, but he especially enjoyed doing pipefitting for the clean rooms in the Intel plant when it was built.
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At 19, he served a 2 year mission in the California Mission for the church. He loved to study the scriptures and often taught Sunday School.
Documenting genealogy and family history was his passion. He did extensive research on his wife’s family line by translating difficult Norwegian records going back to the 1500s. He served many years in the Portland Oregon Temple and labored weekly at the Family History Center, helping people with their genealogy.
Frank is survived by his children, Diana Basham (Rob) and Frank D. Hill (Debbie); his 9 grandchildren, Emily Basham, Hannah Dudley (Stephen), Andrew Basham, William Basham, James Basham, Branden Hill (Amber), Ryan Hill, Austin Hill (Katy), Carter Hill; and his 2 great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Kaylee Hill.
