Gail was born on February 19, 1939 in Orange County, California and was the daughter of Alfred and Verna (Snyder) Orr. As a child she spent time in Oregon City and the Sandy/Boring area. She started her freshman year of high school at Sandy High. She then moved with her family to Santa Ana where she attended Santa Ana High School.
On March 2, 1957 she married Marvin Eugene Thompson in Santa Ana. They returned to Oregon in 1963 where they resided in East County. Gail worked outside the home for a few years before becoming a full-time homemaker caring for her family. She also served as a foster parent for over 40 years caring for children that needed the love and structure of a good family.
Gail was a member of “Uncle Dan’s Harem;” a group of family members that attended lunch gatherings regularly with their Uncle Dan. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, tending to her garden, feeding the birds and squirrels, fishing and hunting. She enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast. Gail also had many collections including her garden frogs and pigs and Christmas decorations. She was a marvelous cook and baker who always cooked for an “Army” leaving plenty of leftovers to feast on for days to come. Above all else, Gail’s most prized procession was her family. “Grandma Cookie” adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gail is survived by her husband, Marvin of Gresham, children, Dan (wife, Keely) Thompson of Portland, Patricia (husband, Jeff) Moore of Portland, Pamela Thompson of Hillsboro, David Thompson of Gresham, Tonya Thompson of Portland and Jeremy (wife, Heather) of Portland and sister, Donna Potter of Vancouver along with 7 grandchildren, Perry, Marshelle, Jennifer, Chelsea, Lyndsea, James and Jaycob and 7 great grandchildren, Hunter, Kolby, Sam, Luke, Molly, Nicole and Sophia. Her brother, Bobby preceded her in death.
