

Gary was born on March 1, 1938 in Portland, Oregon and was the son of Marvin and Maxine (Miller) Harden. He graduated from David Douglas High School where he was among the very first Senior Class to attend. After completing high school, he enlisted in the Army in 1955 and received an honorable discharge in 1958 at the rank of Sergeant.
Gary owned and operated Harden Remodeling in Gresham for over 25 years. He later retired and on August 18, 2004, he married Retha Lewis at their Gresham Home.
Gary was a member of the Pacific Cascade Plymouth Club and adored old cars. He owned a 1941 Plymouth that he won multiple awards for and included in cruise-ins around the area. He also was a collector of model ships and enjoyed traveling. Friends and family were also very important to him and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary is survived by his wife, Retha of Gresham, daughter, Julie Kahooilihala of Lihue, Hawaii and his sister, Victoria Trembly of Beaverton along with 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 12:00 pm at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Contributions may be made in memory of Gary to Serenity Hospice. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
