

Irene was born in Alder Creek, OR to John and Alice Boydstun. At the age of two, her family moved to Vancouver, WA where she lived for the rest of her life. She passed away peacefully in her beloved home on March 21, 2026, at 99, just forty-eight days shy of her 100th birthday.
Irene attended Vancouver High School, during which time she worked for the War Production Training after school. She graduated in the class of 1944. After graduating, Irene attended business college and was a bookkeeper at the Washington Canner’s Cooperative in Vancouver, WA. Irene always had a great love of children. While raising her own children, she did years of in-home childcare. Her children’s friends, her grandkids, great-grands, nieces, nephews, and the neighbor kids were always warmly welcomed. Later, Irene worked for Tower Tot & Teen clothing store as a clerk, as well as, High School Pharmacy and Medco.
Irene married the love of her life Lester Miller, Nov. 8, 1946, and they enjoyed 67 wonderful years together until his death in 2013. She loved the beach and they spent many hours strolling the shores and promenades at Seaside, OR. Irene and Les golfed together at Orchard Hills Golf Club and loved attending sporting and musical events for the grandchildren. In her solitary time, Irene read and did crossword puzzles.
Irene’s patient, kind, giving nature, and her love for children will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene is survived by her daughter Lynn McGraw; son Brad Miller; four grandchildren, Scott McGraw, Erika McManus (Jon), Grant Miller (Liz BigBack), Justin Miller (Anne Marie), four great-grandchildren, Josephine McGraw, Brynna McManus, Clayton McManus, Clara Miller, one sister Florence Shipman, numerous nieces and nephews and her good friend and care-giver Debi Christopherson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Charles, Laurence, Winton, Clifford, Kenneth and Johnny Boydstun; two sisters, Ellen Gibson, Bernice Farmer, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held April 19, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at the Bateman Carroll Funeral Home 520 W. Powell Blvd. Gresham, OR 97030. Viewing from 11:00-12:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to American Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing.
