James Paul West

Jim West passed away June 25th at his home in Happy Valley, Oregon. Jim was born March 1, 1941 in Portland, Oregon to Alfred and Rose (Metzger) West. Jim was the grandson of George W. Metzger, a Gresham pioneer school teacher. He grew up in Gresham, Oregon, graduated from Gresham High School and attended Portland State College. He spent 25 years in the ship building industry working for Northwest Marine Iron Works in Human Resources and Labor Management.

On July 22, 1961 He married Joyce Helen Wersch . They had met at Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company where they both worked. They have two daughters, Kathryn and Karen. Jim had many hobbies - golf, fishing, photography, woodworking, and traveling in his RV. He loved meeting new people and seeing new places.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters Kathryn West of Happy Valley and Karen Schwarz of Downingtown PA; granddaughters Addison and Tess Schwarz; his brother, Pat (Kay) West of Portland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham on Saturday, July 6th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
