Janiece Marilyn Evey Swann made her journey to Heaven on Saturday, March 27th, 2021. Her loving daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughters took turns by her side singing songs, telling stories, and pampering her both in person and on FaceTime.
Jan was born December 15, 1931 in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in various places, eventually living in Portland, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1949. She and Bob attended her 50th high school reunion in 1999.
A gifted singer, Jan participated in U.S. Bank’s choir during her employment in the early 50’s. Jan also sang with the Portland Symphonic Choir, and various church choirs including Rose City Park United Methodist Church where she remained a member until her death.
Jan married Robert (Bob) Franklin Swann on September 2, 1954. They had two daughters, Karen Jean, and Becky Suzanne, and a son, William Edward.
Besides her gift of music, Jan enjoyed crafts and sewing. She especially enjoyed taking ceramics classes with her sister-in-law, Nancy, at the Oregon Coast while Bob, and Nancy’s husband Gene, went fishing. There are many hand-painted treasures to be passed along to her family. Her sewing projects included costumes, dresses, doll clothes, quillows, whimsical pillowcases, and heirloom aprons. Thanks to her pa-tience and teachings, her girls all enjoy various sewing and craft projects!
Bob and Jan loved to go camping with their trailer. Many family members and friends joined them over the years at the Oregon Coast or Detroit Lake State Park. Our family has many wonderful memories of these traditions together.
Jan was well known for her deviled eggs, macaroni salad, jello divinity, and the wonderful recipes she shared over the years. Mom prepared our favorite dishes and we regularly enjoyed meals together at the dining room table.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jan especially enjoyed spending time with her girls. She read us stories such as Winnie The Pooh, bringing the characters to life while she giggled through the adventures and predicaments of Pooh and his friends. Our Mom was a dedicated Camp Fire Leader, second Mom to our friends, and always supported the many activities we participated in.
Jan is survived by her daughters Karen Day (Chuck), Becky Larson (Brian), her Granddaughters Jennifer Thorndyke (Jay), Julenne Moore (Jay), Briana Larson, Brooke Larson, and Great granddaughters Valerie Gibson, Kayle Gibson, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, son William, Parents Clarence Evey, and Ruth Evey.
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery where Bob & Jan will be united once again.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite charity or organization in her memory.
