Jason David Oliver
Jason David Oliver, a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and fiancé, died at his Palo Alto, Calif. home on August 20, 2010. He was 25 years old.
Jason was born to Bob and Linda Oliver on July 16, 1985, in Portland, Ore., joining Brother Ryan, and later becoming big brother to Christopher. Raised and educated in Oregon, Jason excelled in academics, sports and the arts. He was always a part of a winning bowling team (started when he was five years old at Rose Bowl!) and caddied/studied at local golf courses. Full of life and laughter, Jason was always quick with a humorous comeback, enjoyed being silly (a friend on Face book said he once showed up to school in a cow costume), loved to cook (his childhood dream was to become a pastry chef and study in France),and dance (ballroom, country, swing – you name it, the boy could move!). Family life was always important to him, and he always said his mother was his best friend. Graduating with honors from David Douglas High School, Jason was a vital part of the golf, bowling, and choral teams.
Jason received numerous scholarships and awards for his academic and athletic excellence including the prestigious Chick Evans Memorial Golf Scholarship and becoming a member of the National Collegiate Scholars of America. He graduated from Oregon State University Magna cum Laude with a degree in Horticulture/Agronomy (emphasis in Golf Course Turf Management), with a Business Administration Minor. Interning at some of the best golf courses in the Pacific Northwest and California, Jason shined on and off the green.
In 2008, Jason was hired as Assistant Superintendent at Stanford University Golf Course, and began working on his masters degree through them. He said he was blessed to be doing what he loved (golf) while being outside and part of something he strongly believed in (higher education). He was loved by his peers, his superiors, and his assistants at Stanford, who credit him with encouraging them to higher pursuits. At Stanford, still fiercely competitive, he joined a softball league where he met his fiancé and love of his life, Lindsay Frankfurt. The two were to be wed October 10 of this year in Half Moon Bay, Calif.
He deeply loved and was deeply loved by his wonderful parents, Bob and Linda, brother Ryan, wife Tonia and their children Nicole and Allie, brother Chris, his adoring grandmothers Meta Arehart,Ruth Hull and Marie Oliver, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and hundreds of admiring friends. Saying he will be missed is certainly a gross understatement.
