June Ellen Larsen

June Ellen (Richards) Larsen was born in Stevenson, Washington July 31, 1920 in the home of her parents Frank and Ellen Richards. She was very active in high school acting in the senior play and singing in a group called the troubadours who performed at various different functions. She was also a member of the Girl’s league cabinet. June graduated in 1938.

June married Elmer Larsen October 26, 1940 in Stevenson. Elmer was on leave from the Marines and had to return to duty soon after they were married to serve overseas during the Second World War. Their first child Gary was born while Elmer was gone and June took care of him and worked until Elmer returned home. Soon after Judy and Phil were born then 11 and 13 years later June had two more children Diane and Nancy.

June loved family and visited as much as she could with her parents, sisters and brother. She was involved in her children’s activities and always willing to go and cheer on her grandchildren whenever she was invited.

June, Elmer, and Gary were baptized April 26, 1952 at Long Beach, California as members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. June was very active in the church for many years. She served in the Relief Society and Primary whenever called. She made quilts with the other Relief Society ladies and you could always tell which one she worked on because every stitch was perfect.

June worked in 2 different medical clinics from 1966 to 1973. She then went to work for Douglas guardian where Elmer managed the Portland branch. He was the boss and she ran the office. She said it was okay for him to be her boss as long as he remembered who was boss at home. In 1982 after Elmer passed away June retired. She then volunteered at the Milwaukee Senior Center in their Loaves and Fishes program for the meals on wheels for the next 16 years. She was also part of the Milwaukee Center Singers and went to different places to perform.

June passed away July 16th at the senior care home where she was living. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Aaron Larson, son Philip Elmer Larsen, and 2 sisters – Dorothy Beisanz and Phillis Schroth. June is survived by her brother Frank Lee Richards Jr.: Son Gary Lee Larsen, wife Yvonne; Daughters, Judy Elana Van Erem; Diane Marie Frogge, husband Gary; Nancy Linn Beyerle, husband Jerry; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren: and cousins, nieces and nephews.
