Karen Anne Atchley

Special “K”

Karen was called to sing in the heavenly choir on November 13th, 2020 in Portland, OR. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter, Kristin.

Karen was born and raised in Hot Springs, AR on September 10th, 1965 at Ouachita Hospital. She was a phenomenal athlete and graduate of Lakeside High School. At the AAA State Track & Field meet her senior year, she broke the girls over-all record in the discus by nearly seven feet, with a throw of 138 feet, 4 inches; a record that held for several years.

Karen was passionate about life and a lover of all animals. She was a woman of many talents and full of adventure. Karen served as captain of the cadets in Garland county and taught English in Venezuela. Latin America was where she spent time with her then husband, Sergio, the father of her daughter Kristin. Karen later met the love of her life, Gerald, who blessed her with his children, Emily and Sam. They spent nearly two decades together, in Oregon, making lasting and beautiful memories.

Whether she was in South or North America, Karen touched every life that she met. She made deep, meaningful connections with all people without prejudice. She displayed a strong sense of humility and vulnerability, making those around her feel at ease.

Karen had a contagious smile and laugh with a profound love for the art of music. She spent many years of her life writing extraordinary music, blessing people with her beautiful singing voice, and lively spirit. Her favorite pastime was singing karaoke with her closest friends, where she often received standing ovations. Her big, beautiful heart will be missed by all.

Karen is preceded in death by her love, Gerald Holt; her guardian angel and grandmother, Esther Atchley; her father, Doug Atchley; her uncles, Alan Atchley and Charlie Wilson; and her aunt, Ann Thomas.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Kristin Nicole Leon; her mother, Jane Atchley; her brother, Brian Atchley (Julie); her sister, Shannon Corder; her niece, Candyce Corder; Kristin’s Father, Sergio Leon; her step children, Emily and Sam Holt; her uncles and aunts, Debby Atchley; Joe Atchley (Vicky); Robert Atchley; Carol Aughenbaugh (John); Russell Atchley (Colleen); as well as many cousins.
