

Kent Lyle Cumming passed away on April 21, 2014 at his home in Gresham, Oregon. He was born on November 14, 1955 in Albion, Nebraska to parents Lyle and Corinne Cumming. Kent moved with his family to Oregon when he was 9 months old and attended West Gresham Grade School and graduated from Gresham High School in 1973. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Portland State University.
Kent married Jan (Qualheim) in December 1975 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon. Together they shared 38 years of marriage and raised 3 children. Kent was a devoted husband and father who spent much of his time with his family. He loved sports, and in addition to being a Blazers and Ducks fan, coached his daughter’s softball team and both son’s soccer teams. He was an avid golfer for more than 20 years with the SAPS Golf League. Kent's entire career was in the construction business. He worked with his dad for many years before venturing out on his own. Kent was well known for his jovial laugh and good-natured teasing. He touched many lives with his caring and generous nature. Kent was a man of strong faith, and was a leader and strong example for many people. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Kent was preceded in death by his father, Lyle. He is survived by his wife, Jan Cumming; children Jacque (Dave) Williamson, Rob (Nicole) Cumming, and Cory (Lauren) Cumming; grandchildren Mikayla and Bailey Williamson; mother Corinne Cumming, siblings Steve (Sherrie) Cumming, Debbie Cumming and Linda (Tim) Schoonover, and in laws Bud and Kay Qualheim, as well as numerous other family members. A memorial service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 7:00pm. Kent will be laid to rest privately at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements under the care of Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Remembrances may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Kent's name.
