Dedicated wife, mother and grandmother is just one of the many statements that might be used to describe Marion "Vernie" Bush, 91, of Portland. Vernie was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Leon and Maureen (Adams) Cisco and was raised with two sisters, Charlotte Sears and Barbara Deiro. Vernie married Paul Bush, Jr. in 1946 in Salinas, Kansas, and they lived for 4 years in Alabama while Paul attended college, before their move to Portland. They were married for 56 years, and together they raised three children. Vernie had a career at Albertsons and retired after 20 years of service as a team lead in the bakery department. Those that knew Vernie would describe her personality as lively, fun, loving and outgoing. Vernie was very social and she enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and square dancing. Vernie and Paul loved to travel, and visited cities including Miami, Washington DC and San Diego, and cruised Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Panama canal; their favorite destination of all was Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, sister Barbara and sister-in-law Betty. Vernie is survived by her children Michael, Paula (Don Vernon), and Daniel (Elizabeth). She is also survived by her grandchildren Mitchell Vernon, Phillip Vernon and Sidney Bush, her sister Charlotte Sears, sisters-in-law Kathleen Williams, Melba Butttram, nieces Carla Sue Howard, Cheryl Barr, Gina Buttram, Kristie Erwin and nephews Chuck Sears, Jeff Williams, Brett Buttram, Kevin Buttram, and Robin Bridges.
