

Maryhelen Stephens passed away in her home in Portland, Oregon, on August 20, 2015. Maryhelen was born on August 28, 1921, in Yakima, Washington, to her parents: Ernest and Grace (Robertson) Laney. Maryhelen graduated from Selah High School in 1939. She attended Washington State University and she graduated in 1943 with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy. She was a sponsor in ROTC; Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, and Rho Chi pharmacy honorary. She was also among the “Big Five” as one of five outstanding graduating senior women.
In 1945 Maryhelen married her first husband, Robert Brimble. They were married until his passing in 2003. Maryhelen then married her second husband, Robert “Bob” Stephens, in 2005. They were married until her time of passing.
Maryhelen was a member of the Gresham United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Maryhelen was also a member of the Gresham PEO, and she was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society as well as the Oregon Veterinary Association.
Maryhelen loved to travel. She had the opportunity to see the world with Bob, and they took many memorable trips together. Maryhelen also enjoyed Bridge, Tennis, golf, sewing, and spending time with her family. She will always be in the hearts of her family and friends who loved her dearly.
Maryhelen is survived by her husband, Bob Stephens; her son, Randy Brimble; her daughter, LeAnn Newhall; son in law, Ross Newhall; grandson, Jeff Newhall, and his wife, Lyuba Newhall; and granddaughter, Jodi Newhall.
A Memorial Service will be held in Maryhelen’s honor on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 1:30 pm at the Summerplace Clubhouse, 2020 NE 150th, Portland, Oregon 97230. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
