Megumi was born at Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital on November 26th, 1995. We lovingly referred to her as Gumi or Gumi girl until she started school and she asked to be called Meggie. Meggie was followed by Meg, and as a young adult she settled on Megumi. But by whatever name you know her, Meg was an amazing person. And Meg was one of a kind.
Meg’s family lived in the Portland area until 2000 when her family moved to Battleground, Washington. In early 2004 the family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, for her father to attend Graduate Seminary. In 2008 the Jackson family was preparing for a move that would take them to Zambia – a country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before moving to Zambia the family had missions training adventures, which took them to Fort Myers Florida, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sophia Bulgaria, and Thessaloniki, Greece. They moved to Zambia in the fall of 2009.
While in Oregon on Furlough in 2012, 16-year-old Meg began taking college classes at Klamath Community College. She received her GED the summer of 2012. Meg made the decision not to return to Zambia with her family in the fall of 2012 but to remain in the Portland area to attend college. She attended Portland Community College. During this time, Meg attended Trinity Fellowship Church in SE Portland, and it was there that she met many of her good friends and her future husband, Joel.
Meg and Joel were married on April 18th 2015. In September of 2017, Megumi gave birth to their son Arthur Ralph Tiberius Rydell. He was the 2nd love of her life, after Joel! In August of this year, Megumi and Joel found out that they were having TWINS, something Meg had dreamed about all her life. On Friday November 8th, Meg was given a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, it was very aggressive, and we were all shocked when only 3 days later Megumi left this earth.
